Blown motherboard X-axis port at upgrade to K8203 & K8204

I guess this is a simple warranty case.

After upgrading my Kate (K8200) even further, now with K8203 (nozzle) and K8204 (Z-axis) the X-axis part of the motherboard has stopped working.

I’ve done the following tests to make sure of what is what:

  1. Switched X-motor and endstop with Y ditto.
    Result: X worked just fine, Y didn’t.

  2. Switched drive module between X and Y.
    Result: Y worked just fine, X didn’t.

  3. Switched both motor, endstop and module between X and Y.
    X worked just fine, Y didn’t.

So it’s not the motor, not the endstop and not the module.
Ah yes, the little activation LED (LD10) lights up, as it should.

A new motherboard…? Please…?

This is likely a firmware issue.

What Arduino version did you use to update the firmware?
Any Version above 1.0.6 won’t compile the Velleman marlin correctly.
Did you restore factory defaults after flashing the new firmware?

cheers,

Christian

Yes, I did restore failsafe config.

Ah, not above 1.0.6, if it’s to work.
Aargh, uninstall and reinstall then - which isn’t as quick as one might want it to be…
A big thank you for that information!

The second part would then be to find out if this is what happens…

Nothing to untinstall/reinstall.

Just download the V1.0.6 zip package, unpack it and start the arduino exe from there.
That way you can have multiple versions in parallel.

It did fix the X-axis movement.

But now I got another one instead.

Extruder goes backwards… extrude detracts and detract extrudes.

Did you use the firmware version for the K8403?
If not, simply reverse the extruder axis direction in the firmware.
If yes, you probably switched wires in the extruder wiring.
Then also simply reverse the extruder axis direction in the firmware.

Ah… I found it… Move the wires of the stepper around a bit.

Nope, that wasn’t it.
The wires is to go the same way, the same colour coding, as before.

The answer is there, even if it shouldn’t need to be - there shouldn’t need to be an answer at all to this.

Velleman - this was really really bad.

Not only do the instructions from you not warn about what Arduino to use (apart from to not use beta versions).
They do then not tell you that the stepper wires on the last connector, to the board, are to be reversed.

And last, but not least - the instructions as such, for the K8203, is to be found at the pages of the K8400.
How did that thinking go…?
