Before I ask

Before I ask a particular question, I’m feeling a bit confused…

I’ve just read this post viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3106
where you say sorry about no modifications for custom puurpposes etc…
Yet, I am reading posts where a custom/modification question has been asked and replied to…

Have I misunderstood something?

I’ve just built the MK194 radio (loving it by the way… my first attempt at anything like this) and it performs very well indeed…
It’s just that I need it to do something else, if it is possible, hence my cautious question here, especially as I’m a new forum member.

Thank you in advance

Welcome

As with everything, I believe that post is aimed more at the small minority that abuse the system

A minority of people blatantly post their homework questions and expect other people to solve it here for them, skipping the whole learning process.

Sometimes we get requests for a certain quantity of a kit (50x MK179 for example), but which need to work differently. However, we don’t have the resources or staff to provide tailor made hardware. I think this is what has been meant with modifications.

Also, we can’t share or modify any firmware. So this leaves only simple changes that can be solved by replacing or moving around some components.

Oh, I see… Thank you for clarifying.

I am in the process of trying to figure something out with the radio as I am now one step closer to what I wish to achieve.
This step though comes after the issue i’m trying to get to the bottom of.

If I really get stuck, I’ll ask

I think I might know what it is I need after a bit of research.

I have been looking at the diagram for the mk194
velleman.eu/images/tmp/MK194 … iagram.jpg

I believe the relevant area MAY be with the mw004 FM module.

When a scan is performed to find a station, the radio mutes itself so that you do not hear the skipping and white noise whilst the scan is in operation.
Which section of the radio causes this mute to happen?

I am trying to stop this mute if it is possible.

This ‘mute’ is done in the module and is a property of the module which cannot be changed.
