At what temp does the Steppermotordriver shut down?

I got a really weird print today, at the end of an 4 hour print it made some “micro-pauses” and once every minute or so the printing stopped for about 1 second. The outer and inner perimeter-prints went on smooth all the time, just the infill that made this extremely quick pauses (I’m 97% sure that was the case).

I measured the temp on the drivers on the mainboard while it printed and the highest temp I got was 47C. I lifted the printer on to two stools so I could get a clear view and to measure properly.

I haven’t tried to print since, there has been no time :frowning:

AND; I also noticed that the extruder motor that wasn’t in use had the same temperature as the other three (didn’t measure Z-axis motor) about 40-45 degrees Celsius.

Regards
Mike

I think it’s normal these temperatures.

Cheers,
Dylan

When I printed the frog last week I noticed the same pauzes
it was due the generated G codes as it where very small part
on top of the eyes and it had to cool down a bit befor a
new layer can be positioned.

Thanks for your replys guys.

I was printing a container with an diameter of 40mm and a thickness of 2mm so no need for cooling down, good thought thou.

Could someone confirm that 47C is NOT the, or above the limit?
It would be really nice to know where it actually is for future reference and knowledge.

Regards

Certainly not, the limit is above 100°. The manufacturer only says :
This product can get hot enough to burn you long before the chip overheats.
Ohh, thats a nice spec

Thank you raby, you are a rock!

Well I must say that I seriously wonder why there are so many threads where people ar making superman-inventions to protect the extremley fragile stepperdrivers… Sorry, don’t mind me. I’m just dissapointed cus now I have a really sh***y work ahead of me to try find out why my printer acts like it’s got the flu…

Have a nice day folks

Here is the link to the stepper driver ic datasheet : allegromicro.com/~/media/Fil … sheet.ashx
Max junction temp without DAMAGE : 150°C
Thermal Shutdown Temperature TJ – 165 – °C

 Now that is even more like it

Cudos to you ichbinsnur
