Amplifier for my hopeless Philips TV

Hi
I have bought a Philips TV (5000 serie). The picture is very good but the sound is NOT. So now I want to build a little amp to feed a couple of speakers. And I hope to be able to adjust the volume via the Philips remote, and this is why I feel the urge to ask this forum:
Can it be done?
The amp will be feed from the headphone output, which can’t be adjusted by the remote unless you are willing to dive into a submenu.

Anyone have an idea?

Doesn’t it have line out?
That would be usually controlled by volume.

Because if that headphone out isn’t controlled by main volume you won’t be getting remote volume control except through that menu.
(unless some other menu has setting which couples headphone out’s volume control to main volume)

No
Unfortunately the line out is NOT controlled by the volume.

You already stated that the volume from the headphone output can’t be adjusted directly.
If you are willing to open your TV, it can be done by rerouting the speaker output (preamplifier output) to your headphone output. This means that you have to sacrifice the original headphone output however this function could be replaced by the one on the external amplifier. This way you can control the preamplifier output signal with the remote and connect the output signal easily with the rewired headphone output.
