ColorFabb state that XT can be printed without a heated bed, they say “the trick to minimize warping on a cold bed is to disable the cooling fan for the first 1-2cm.”
I assume this means we set the "Fan full at height: " setting on the extrusion tab of the Cura config to something between 10-20mm.
Is there any possibility that the higher temperatures required for XT (245-250) could damage the nozzle with the fan turned off for this long initially?
This would not be a good idea since the fan also cools the heat break.
Do you mean the PEEK isolator? I think that’s good up to 260.
It’s more for heat that rises up. This can cause problems with filament getting soft too high up in the nozzle, which can lead to a whole array of problems.
PEEK will handle the temperature but it’s best to keep it as cool as possible.

Assuming I can print with it, what fan setting should I use? Are you saying I basically must keep the fan on even during the first few layers or so?

After all it has a higher melt temperature to begin with and it would only be for a short while?
ive printed with this filament fine had to increase my speed of retraction if I remember rightly otherwise same settings I had no warping but I have heated bed , I run my extruder fan at 70 percent
hope this helps by no means are these best setting im playing at this point with the 8400 as many others
Thanks commanderK - but I guess you didn’t need to turn the fan off because you have a heated bed? I don’t, so I’m wondering about whether it’ll stick to the bed. Guess I’ll just have to try it without shutting the fan off first. You never know, buildtak might work on its own without any extra help from turning off the fan, etc. When my room is very cold, I sometimes pop the bed on top of the radiator for a few minutes to warm up. Seems to help the first layer for all filaments.
Hi
If u arre printing only with one nozzle, i recommed siplify 3d software. With it you can program easely every single layers how it is printed and with what settings they are printed. 150€ is a lot ffor just a printing software but it works nicely especially with one nozzle.
