Adjusting the movement of Printhead during installation

As a newbie in 3D printing my biggest trouble was freeing the print head movement.
Initially my print head was pretty stuck in corner areas.
Took really long time to sort the free movement. The issue was that my X-Axel was about 1mm too deep inside the guide rod.
It is extremely frustrating to adjust these later.
So in the guidance this could be pointed out early enough .Else the X and Y Axel are stuck and jumping over the rubber band instead of moving at all.

Do you mean the distance of 32.8cm described in the manual? What distance did you find to be correct? We can adjust this value as we here from more customers.

i agree with this. The manual wasn’t clear enough that the dimension should be perfect. Also note the fact that the ‘trollies’ should be exactly in alignment to allow the smoothest movement from corner to corner.

If the trollies were just a fraction less tight, the guides would settle automatically with use, without giving up on accuracy i think.

Same here, the build instructions (which are really fantastic) state ‘should measure about 33,6cm’ but in practice it needs to be aligned in all directions very precisely.

Yes 32,8 cm was not enough. Mine is now 32,9cm and perfect.

Hi, can someone help please,
I am just building my k8400 and have an issue with the 298 rod and fittings, the instructions show a measurement of 33.6 cm but when I try the lowest I can get it is to 33.85, I have measured the rod and it is closer to 299 rather than 298, but even the extra millimeter shouldn’t stop me getting it to 33.7, I have checked the end plastic pieces and the holes seem clear.
Has anyone else had a problem with this and if so how did they overcome it.
Make thanks
Andrew

As they’re usually too close when using the suggested distance, it shouldn’t be a problem. Before going any further, check the Wiki about how to get your axis running freely.

I did build it with it as tight as I could get, but it was very sticky in the movement, especially near the end of the travel. Does anyone have an exact measurement?
Thanks
Andrew
Does anyone have an exact measurement?
Sorry but when I got it right I didn’t take it apart to measure it. Anyway I don’t think there’s an exact measurement. It’s usually a bit more than stated in the manual. It depends on the margin of error of the components.

Ok thanks, I will keep trying, but this alignment is now becoming a pain.

Check in the Wiki about the alignment.

Done that, but I am a bit heavy handed where hammers are concerned. Lol

If you didn’t do it today, read it again I’ve added a way to check if the distance is correct.

Think I have it sorted, done my 1st print and it seems fine.
Thanks for the help
