ABS Printing on Vertex Delta?

Hi there

I’m 99% decided on getting a Vertex Delta, once they become available here. I have a quesion about printing in ABS:

The Delta can print in ABS according to the specs. From you beginners guide (https://manuals.velleman.eu/article.php?id=671) for ABS guide I get:

Heated bed: Required! Printing with ABS without a heated bed can increase deformity of the print afterward.

Yet the Delta does not seem to have a heated bed?

Yeah, same with the original Vertex it does not have a heated bed. so you need to mod it.

I don’t own a delta. But I have the k8400, that I have installed a heated bed on.
Its not too hard. But if the board is similar to the k8400 you need an additional PSU and a solid state relay to connect a between the PSU, bed and board.

Thanks, sounds like something to look into when I get some experience

Good luck!

After taking a look at the schematics, it looks like you’d need to to some modification to the board and firmware to make it work since I cant find any free outputs for a heated bed.

You would probably need to assign some other unused pins on the board for that.

Ah, there’s always something, isn’t there? :-/

This is maybe a stupid question, but does the bed actually have to be controlled by the main board, or does it just have to be on while the machine is printing?

Is the board more limited than on the 8400? I was hoping to also rig this thing up to octopi, but that might also be an issue?

(sorry for the probably very basic questions, it’s hard to grasp all these nuances for a newbie).

Unfortunately I don’t have one yet.
But it does have a USB port so Octoprint maybe an option.

In theory it doesn’t need to, you should be able to make a stand alone temp controller for it with an MOSFET and an arduino as a PID controller

Thanks to both of you. Some kind of Arduino based solution is what I had in mind.
