Just to make sure are you asking how long the relay should be engaged to open your garage door?
If your doors are like the ones in the USA normally there is a button that you press for a very short time.
When the door gets to the open position it hits a switch and turns the motor off.
The same thing happends when the door is being closed.
If this is the case for your door I would think you would want the shortest time avaliable.
