What’s the use of being able to drag the y-positions of channel A/B way out off of the visible screen?
This happens both in pos as well as in neg direction.
Any purpose?

The purpose of this feature is to allow you to drag the trace back to visible area of the waveform screen if it disappeared due to high DC component of the signal of interest.
This allows the use of more sensitive Volt/Div settings in many cases.
