Suggestions for new PCLab version

Hi,

first, I’d like to re-iterate my request for “reference traces”, i.e. the ability to store the current scope waveforms to a reference trace so changes between this reference and the “live” waveform can be observed easily. Of course the measurements (Waveform Parameters) and data export should be expanded to also show those parameters for the reference waveforms.

Second, for the waveform parameters, it would be helpful if one could choose the threshold levels. E.g. sometimes I may want to display the 10%-to-90% rise time, but sometimes I’d rather have the 20%-to-80% rise time. And sometimes I’d rather choose absolute thresholds (e.g. 2.5V). In addition, maybe there could be an option to graphically display the actual thresholds used (dotted horizontal lines). All these are standard features on “professional” scopes. If you use defaults identical to what is used now then a new user wouldn’t have to deal with those settings, but an advanced user would have more freedom.

Regards,

Wolfgang

Thank you Wolfgang for your suggestion and ideas to improve the PC-Lab software.

As you see, in every new release there are some new ideas from you and other users implemented.
In the last release:

  • Added logarithmic sweep to the PCGU1000.
  • Ability to print the selected waveform parameters either on paper or on the oscilloscope screen as a comment text.
  • History waveform save / clear / recall options added.

In the earlier release the average feature was good improvement too…

Sorry that many of your good ideas are too difficult to add to the existing software structure. For instance the reference trace(s) you suggested…
As you wrote, a lot of modifications have to be done:

Instead the ability to select the rise/fall time thresholds either 10%/90% or 20%/80% or 50%/50% is quite easy, but not easy with the graphical threshold display on the screen – sorry…

Anyhow, all the ideas from you and other users will be considered and ”processed” continuously…
