Suggestion for doubling sample rate by software

Will it automatic use 8k if you use one channel?

There is a separate program for the single channel use: PCSU1000GU1CH.exe.
Download: vel255.diinoweb.com/files/PCSU1000GU1CH.zip
Extract the files PCSU1000GU1CH.exe and PCSU1000k8.BIT the to the \Program Files\Velleman\PC-Lab2000SE folder.
Run PCSU1000GU1CH.exe.
This is just a test version of single channel software using 8kB of data memory.

I think that a separate program is needed for this purpose in the future too. There are different configuration files needed for the FPGA for double channel and single channel use. Uploading the configuration to the FPGA “on-the-fly” is not very convenient.
In the future the single channel version may anyhow be selected from the PCLab2000SE startup screen.

Please note:
The 1GS/s mode is not working in this single channel test version.

Regarding the 8k samples / single channel version: I noticed that the spectrum analyzer function is disabled in this version. I hope this is just because it is a test version. 8k record length would double the frequency resolution in FFT mode. What’s more, especially in spectrum analyzer mode there is rarely a need to use both channels - so single-channel mode could even become default? At the very least, please add it to the special version.

I understand the issue with uploading a separate bit file. But as long as the single-channel version is selectable from the PCLab main menu that should be ok.

One more request (I had mentioned it in the past) - please make the spectrum analyzer mode available in equivalent time sampling mode as well (of course the trigger has to be on for this to work).

Finally, I’d like to re-iterate the need to enhance the trigger circuitry (pumping it up to 100 MS/s even in the “normal” software version), because at the fastest timebase settings the waveform has exsessive jitter due to the uncertainty in the trigger timing when it only gets samples at 50 MSamples/s.

Regards,

Wolfgang

Thanks womai for your comments.
Indeed, the spectrum analyzer with double resolution should be added to the final version (or at least to some of the future versions – due to the amount of the software work needed).

I made some tests to put the spectrum analyzer mode to the equivalent time sampling mode. I did not like the spectrum I got. The waveform in that mode is OK to view but seems to be not OK for spectrum analysis. Too much spurious in the spectrum – sorry.

Thank you for reminding about the enhance of the trigger circuitry. This should be done by doubling the trigger event detection frequency to 100 MHz.
I’ll do some thinking how to implement this…

Spectrum analyzer in equivalent time sampling (ETS) mode - did you try to use waveform averaging before applying the FFT? Since ETS can’t do single shot, there isn’t much lost making vector averaging mandatory in this case.

Wolfgang

Averaging may help, indeed.
Maybe some more tests have to be done…

Does the new software support one ch or where can I download one ch version?

Best regards /Jörgen

This option is not included to the software.
There was only the test version available as discussed in this thread.
