Session storing problem

Hi,

I’ve noticed there are some problems when trying to save and restore a session.

I can’t store a session correctly when both channels are set to 1V/div (probe = x10 in both cases).

If I store that configuration and I recall it again, then channel 2 is always set to 2V/div iso the 1V/div that was supposed to be stored. Channel 1 is OK.

Some combinations work, like for instance 0.5V/div for both ch1 and ch2.

Best rgds,

–Geert

Thank you for this notification. Indeed, the button data is mixed someway when restored from file. This bug will be fixed soon.

The following software modifications are done:

  • Session storing bug fixed
  • PNG image file format added.
  • Menu option “Save/Recall Last Settings” added to the Options menu.
  • CPU usage in Run mode reduced.
  • The vertical position of the waveform can be changed after the signal acquisition.

You can download the updated version 2.04 of the PCLAB2000SE from: velleman.be/be/en/download/files/

The About box reveals version 1.04. What’s the correct version?

Best rgds,

Everything works great, thanks for the effort spend!

A big improvement is indeed the CPU usage. In the past, the RUN mode took almost half of the processor power, now it’s hardly"present".

Nice job, thumbs up!

Thank you for your comments. It’s nice that you like the new features of the software.
All further suggestions to improve the software are welcome.

You have downloaded the right software version regardless that the version number of the PCSU1000.EXE program is 1.04. The version numbers for every individual instrument live their own lives. The version number advances if there is any change done to the operation of the instrument. The “top level” version number of the PCLAB2000SE package advances every time if any of the sub programs is changed. This “top level” version number (now 2.04) is displayed during the software setup only. This version number will be put in the future to the user interface of the PCLAB2000SE.EXE program.

Hi

I have noticed that sessions are not restored correctly in the display and I am wondering whether it’s my mistake. The facts:
When saving a session with both Markers (DSO) and Bright Grid checked and activated, i.e. visible on the display, the restore will be with both Markers (DSO) and Bright Grid checked but Markers (DSO) is not active even though check in the view menu item.

Did I misunderstand anything in the process or is it really an issue.

In advance many thanks for the help.

I am usuing a PCS1000 device

Thank you for your comment. Indeed, the bright grid is not restored. In normal mode “Save/Recall Last Settings” not checked it restores correctly.
According to my tests the DSO markers are restored. The positions of the markers are the default positions.
Do you see the following lines in the file settings1000.ini:
[DSO_Markers]
Markers_1=1

I would have checked it, but I can’t find any settings1000.ini file neither in my Windows directory nor under the PC-Lab2000SE installation directory. Should I have created myself?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

PS: I am using PC-Lab2000SE version 2.05

The file should be in the PC-Lab2000SE folder.
If you have not downloaded the latest v2.05 PCLab2000SE software then the file name is settings.ini and located in the DATA subfolder.
It should be there – no need to create it.

Hi

I could locate the file settings.ini exactly where you said and here it is. As you can see it says Markers_1=1 under [DSO_Markers] section. I prefer to post the entire file in case you would like to check anything else in it.

In advance, many thanks for your help.

Everything in the settings.ini looks OK.
Strange that the markers are not displayed.
Please download the latest PCLAB2000SE software v2.05 and try with it.

Thanks for the feedback.
I am already using this version 2.05.
Any way, I will take away everything about PC-Lab2000SE from my PC, i.e. uninstall and delete any persisting setting file, I will install this latest version again, do the test and then give you feedback.

Best wishes.

Dear VEL255

I did uninstall PC-Lab2000SE from my PC, delete the directory where it has been installed, download the latest version form the web, install it again and reboot the PC. The facts:

  • the issue as described on the 3rd March on this forum still exists.
  • I don’t have any Settings.ini file under the subfolder Data any more.

This was my feedback and, of course, the “issue” as described in here doesn’t prevent me enjoying my PCSU1000. For sure, I will be glad to install any new version of your software in the future and I would like to thank you so much for your kind help.

Nice that you enjoy the PCSU1000 scope.
Indeed there is no settings.ini file anymore. Now the settings are saved to settings1000.ini file. If you run PCS500 then the settings are saved to the settings500.ini. The files are in the PC-Lab2000SE folder.

Regardless you seem to be quite satisfied with the PCSU1000, anyhow I’d like to solve the “issue”.

Could you please still do some more tests that may help me to assume the reason to the problem.

  • Set the markers on in scope, spectrum analyzer and in the transient recorder.
  • Check that the “Save/Recall Last Settings” is checked in the Options menu.
  • Do some changes to the Volts/div, Time/div, Y-position etc. settings to see that the settings will be restored.
  • Close and restart the program.
  • Check that the changed settings are restored correctly.
  • Check if the markers are displayed on any of the screens: Scope, spectrum analyzer or transient recorder.
  • If not visible then click the mouse near the upper edge on the oscilloscope screen and drag the mouse. Is there anything (marker line) displayed on the screen.

    Dear VEL255

I think we did misunderstand each other and somehow the application behaviour seems not to be consistent as to the settings save and recall.
Please, let me describe the “issue” once again.

I have done the testing you suggested and what I ahve noticed is the following:

Please, note that for these test Save/Recall Last Settings option under the Option menu item is not checked. I have also an ini file in the application folder that is named settings1000.ini.

The tests:

1 - No DSO Markers and no Bright Grid
You can save and recall as many times you want the recall is correct, i.e. no DSO Markers and no Bright Grid are checked nor visible.

2 - Bright Grid and no DSO Markers
You can save and recall just once. the second time you make a settings recall the Bright Grid wont display even though checked in the View menu item. of course if you save again with the check and the display correctly set, then it will work. Yo can also save the settings with the Bright Grid checked and not visible, these settings will be recalled exactly as saved, i.e. Bright Grid checked and not visible.

3 - DSO Markers and no Bright Grid
This work perfectly even though you save and recall as many times as you want.

4 - Bright and DSO Markers
The situation is as described under test 2, i.e. the Bright Grid is not restored and the DSO Markers are restored.

I am sorry it it’s too complicated as I did explain it and I am ready to do any further testing for you, just let me know.

Setting or not these DSO Markers under the other functions doesn’t seem to change anything to the behaviour described in the 4 tests.

I assume this covers the testing you wanted from me and if it’s not the case, please, let me know.

Many thanks for your patience and

Best wishes and have fun.

Thank you for your patience and testing the PCSU1000 software!
Now the tests are complete.
The reason to all these tests was that I got an impression of your comment on the 3rd March that the markers (DSO) are not restored and not displayed (active) on the screen:

This is very clear for me now:

[quote]4 - Bright and DSO Markers

The bright grid restore problem will be fixed in the next release of the software.

Many thanks to you for all your help and the comments.

Hi VEL255

Many thanks for the PC-LAB2000 newer version 2.06. I did test it and it seems to react correctly to the settings save and recall.

I do have even more fun using my PCSU1000 scope.

Thanks Momboz for all your help testing the software.
Nice that you like it
