Will find out tonight, as I’m planning to try a single extruder print with the left hand extruder.
OK, took both nozzles off. Made them identical lengths. Fitted them and recalibrated. Noted that left hand extruder is still marginally higher, but it’s very slight.
Re did the bracelet print. Exactly the same thing happened, except this time I heard it slip some steps. What I’m baffled by is why it only seems to slip steps when printing with the left hand extruder? The right hand extruder seems to be fine (just testing it with a bigger print now).
What’s going on?
I would first make sure to have good enough aligned X and Y axis.
“left hand extruder is still marginally higher”, that might explain that the right extruder crashes sometimes into some higher PLA that stands in its way while printing with the left head?
I aligned the two extruder nozzles with a 4x folded paper & the print bed to get very close.
Hi Zefix, yes I did that but I think (hope) that the problem might have been that the belts somehow tightened over the few weeks I’ve had the printer.
I’ve now loosened them and everything instantly feels smoother. Can’t test it out, as the printer is in our bedroom (!) but I’m feeling pretty confident this might be the cause of the missed steps, which was what caused the X axis shift in the first place. It turned out to be a complete red herring that it showed up on my first print with two extruders and apparently always with the left extruder. My final test showed that it missed steps with both and that’s when the penny dropped!
had also problems with dual head but then i reassembled the head staring from:

to
manuals.velleman.eu/article/17-t … ys-17.html
and lots of attention to x and y axels and to get them to slide perfectly there was a small difference in measures compared to instructions:
here is stated that the distance is 33,6cm for me best value was 33,8

and here 32,8cm for me best value was 32,95cm

i tested how well 298mm rod and 289mm rod slided alone without the printhead, when it seemed to be nice then i installed the head to the rods and so on…
now its working perfectly.
this is stated somewhere else also in the forum
Pleased to report success! Unfortunately nigh on impossible to post photos from my mobile but I’ll add them later. The quality is fantastic.
Very, very pleased.
