Hi,
I bought the velleman K8048 earlier this week and i built it all quite nicely. All solder joints are clean and all components rechecked and all in the correct place. 12V DC adaptor used (output voltage something like 17.4V at avg. 300mA). I plugged the programmer into my pc (standard serial rs232 interface, no adaptors) using a cable i built myself pin 1>1, 2>2 etc and tested and all works with average cable resistivity of that type. Switched SW5 to Prog with jumpers on JP3 and JP4 and a 16f627 chip inserted (also tested 16F84A) and all leds come on as they should (after reading other posts). I installed the pic program that came on the cd.
I’ve set the BIOS to assume serial port 1 is COM1 and serial port 2 is COM2, ive connected the cable in both ports to test and the program comes up with the message “K8048 not found at COM#”. Ive tried changing the COM ports within the program and plugging the cable in both serial ports i have on my motherboard. I used various programs (IC-prog, WinPic, ProgPic2, ProgPic2006) and none of them detect my programmer.
I’m guessing its to do with my RS232 settings but im not knowledged enough in this field to work out what to try. Any suggestions will really help and any information needed im more than happy to share. It’s really bugging me as i know its something really simple but i cant shine any light on it…
…oh and ive tried running a pic ive programmed ages ago on my k8048 (in RUN mode) and it ran as it should which can only be a good thing lol.
thanks for reading
