I’m trying to connect the oscilloscope PPS10 with the PCUSB6 interface under Windows 7. Both devices are made by Velleman and are supposted to work and compatible. I have downloaded the new driver and software last version. I set 57600,8,N,1,nothing in the serial port configuration. I checked “send” on the menu instrument. Nothing seems to happen. Where I’m wrong ?

Are you selecting “connect” under device in the software?
Yes sure, a menu that ask to chose the port number opens, I can select the port (Com3 in my case). Then nothing happens the screen on the instrument change but not on the PC. Strange.

My experience has been that connecting devices to a PC via a serial to USB converter is a 50/50 proposition. This is in very large part because the serial/USB converters often expect a RS-232 signal that fully meets the EIA specifications–many consumer level products do not.
The RS-232 specification calls for signal levels of +/- 3V to +/- 25V. However the faux RS-232 signals generated by many consumer and battery powered devices do not drop below 0V, with signal excursions of 0V-5V being common. Many serial to USB converters will not work with these faux RS-232 signals.
I have never seen that Velleman has ever claimed the PCUSB6 and PPS10 to be compatible, I suspect it is the incompatibility of the 'scopes “RS-232” output and the adapter’s expectations that is blocking communications…
- Do you think that if the PPS10 has a AC-DC power would be better ? Up to now I used only batteries.
- Should I make the test with a desktop too?
Sometime ago i wrote to Velleman and they suggested to buy their adapter, but at that time I was using Win Xp and its driver.
