PCSU1000 not recognized by USB

I have a strong feeling that my new PCSU100 unit is defective. Originally when I plugged the unit into my laptops USB, it started to download the USB drivers and then my computer indicated that the drivers download failed. I also attempted this on my desktop and received the same result (Both computers run W7 x64). Even though the scope is connected, PCLAB2000SE indicates that the device is ‘not’ present and defaults to demo mode. Additionally, the power light in the unit does ‘not’ turn on when plugged in.

I did a bit of online research in the Velleman Project forums and found the program usbview.exe. When I ran this it showed a yellow exclamation mark for the scope and indicated ‘device connected’, but it did not display the name of the actual device (PCSU1000) as in the pictures I saw in this download’s blog.

Another program I found in the forums was FT_Prog_1.9. However when I ran FT_prog.exe, a pop up stated, “Failed to load FTD2XX.DLL. Are the FTDI drivers installed?” After closing these popups, the program initiated, but with a blank screen (again this was different from what I found in this download’s blog).

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Manually point to the driver, Windows will not find a driver automatically.

Sorry I forgot to mention, I already downloaded the x64 drivers and replaced the old ones with these. Also in PClab2000, I went into the Options tab and then to Hardware Setup to choose PCSU1000, but it replied, “Could not open DriverLinx driver. Please run DRV.EXE to install the driver.” (Note: Since I am ‘not’ running a Velleman function generator, I did ‘not’ change any of these setting under Hardware Setup). Following this, I re-installed DRV.EXE with the updated x64 drivers and re-ran PClab but it still replied, “No hardware response!” and defaulted to demo mode again (this also occured the first time).
Also, I re-ran usbview.exe and FT_PROG.exe afterward and received the same response from both.

Am I pointing to the drivers correctly or is there a different method?

On the PcLab2000 startup screen, in the “USB - Devices” section select PCSU1000 and PCGU1000.
In the “LPT - Devices” section the “None” button will be activated.
Then click “OK”.
In this case the right software, PCSU1000GU.EXE should be run and no error message about the LPT driver "DriverLinx " installation should be displayed.

On the PClab startup screen I clicked on both items and hit OK. Then, after going into Hardware Setup, I chose PCSU1000, but after hitting OK it still replied, “No hardware response.”, and reverted back to demo mode.

Almost forgot. I also ran the program version PCSU1000GU.exe and received identical results.

Have you checked in the Device Manager under the Universal Serial Bus controllers the PCSU1000_Oscilloscope is there and the driver is properly installed?

In the Device Manager, if you double click the “PCSU1000_Oscilloscope” and then click the Details tab and then select to look the Hardware Ids it should look like this:

I went into the Device Manger’s Universal Serial Bus Contrlloer and found that the name PCSU1000_Oscilloscope did not appear no matter which drive I plugged it into. Also, I attached other devices to the USB ports I tried and found that a title for those attached devices ‘did’ appear. So my USB ports are most likely functioning OK.

Does the PCSU1000 appear under “Other devices” in the Device Manager when plugged in?

  • Downloaded the driver from Velleman site and extracted it to a folder.
  • Then you plugged the PCSU1000 oscilloscope to the USB socket of your PC and followed the instructions to install the driver / or manually updated the driver in the Device Manager.
  • When doing this you had to locate the folder where you extracted the driver files.

When all this is done, the “PCSU1000_Oscilloscope” should appear to the Device Manager under the Universal Serial Bus controllers.
