PCSGU250 with Linux. Alpha version available

Hi All,

Now I decided to put out the alpha (very alpha) version of Linux software for Velleman PCSGU250.
Velleman have been very supportive with the information. It has been slow going (life tends to get
in the way of interesting project).

You should read the README.txt file in the distribution but here are main points.

  • draw the curves for both channels
  • function generator works - probably …
  • I have started with X-Y plot and frequency analyzer(Thanks for Lars Juul for the Fourier algo).
  • If you start the program without scope you end up playing around with sin waves in X-Y plot.

I wanted to put this out for one reason. Because Velleman has been so kind to give out the
communication spec, I did not want to keep it only to myself - it might be useful for someone.
I have been playing with this communication side for some time now and have an USB-analyzer.
So you can contact me about it. If I don’t know the answer, I have my contact.

My plan is following.
I plan to develop and support this proto until the next generation version is available.
I have already started to plan this next version and any help would be appreciated.
I am little lost with C++, Qt, and design patterns.

It would be nice to hear back whether there is use for this Linux version. The learning
process is going to take for me about 3-4 months and the next version another 3-4
months. So it is not little investment from my part. I also have to use 2-3000euros
to get Velleman hardware. Idea is that the next version would support all Velleman
oscilloscopes. Condition is that Velleman is willing to give the communication specs
for them. But tentative questions have not been turned down - so it might be possible.
