I want to use the PCS500 with an old PC which has a freshly installed Windows 98 SE as the o.s. During Windows boot up, just at the point when the pcscope light comes on, Windows hangs with the the message that a protection fault has happened and the PC has to be rebooted. I have tried all the combinations in the BIOS setup for mode of operation and interrupts but problem persists. I notice that if I disconnect the PCS500 from the PC , allow the Windows to boot up normally, and then hot plug the PCS500 it then calibrates ok so I think it must be something happening only during the Windows boot up stage. The scope works ok on other machines which have Windows Me or XP. Any ideas?
This problem may be caused by the plug-and-play feature of the Windows 98.
The system tries to detect the PCS500 as a printer and fails to do it…
You may try to disable the plug-and-play.
