PCS10 current

hello,

I have the velleman PSC10. This instrument can only measure voltage, but I would like to use one of the 4 channels for current measurement. Is there a way I can use it for this purpose by converting the signal with a certain component?

I hope you can help me out
thanks

If you use a shunt resistor, you can use it as a DC current meter.
Careful: 4 inputs have common ground.

Won’t it short-circuit if you put in a real small resistor?

you could put in a bigger resistance, but then you don’t have a proper measuring range.

I’m a student, how could I compute how big the shunt resistance should be

The resistor is put in series, so it does not short. Please check theory on current measurement using shunt resistor.
If you use a 1 ohm series resistor, you get 1V per amp. Make sure to use a resistor that can handle the power (e.g. 5A x 1V = 5W resistor).
