Mk136

I’ve finally decided to take my first steps into the world of electronics…

My apologies if the following is a stupid question:

In the MK136 kit, the electret microphones seem slighty different from what is displayed in the instructions. In particular, how do I determine the correct polarity for the mic? One of the prongs lead to a sort of Y-split on the base of the microphone, is that side considered negative? The instructions show what looks like a 3 prong mic with the 2 prong side as negative but the included mic only has 2 prongs with no discernable indicators for +/-.

Thanks

hi, if you look at the prongs there is one that is separated. That one is the negative and the normal pin is the positive.
The negative prongs should face inwards and be on the inside with the positive pins being on the outside. As you will se on the diagram in the instructions there is a plus sign (+) on the normal pin and a negetive sign on the fatter one (-).
As im sure you know (+) = positive and (-) = negative.
so, yes the Y split is negetive.
I hope I have helped!
P.S its not a stupid question, everyone gets confused! :?:
