I am putting together a lot of these units for a light system.
However, when I have connected to “Mains” and “LOAD” and nothing connected to “LS” the lamp blink constantly. 3-4 blinks pr. second. I’ve tested this with 6 units.
Is this the correct behaviour with open circuit LS?
For 2 weeks ago, we used a lamp (energy saving type as it was the only type available late at night): it worked, and blinked to the music.

For some reason, this weekend, the same lamp showed the described blinking light with open circuit LS and also with music signal to LS.
We had used the weekend to build the remaining circuits and mount in a box: so the problem showed up late last night and we proceeded to test with using a couple of circuits to test on.
This morning, we got hold of a filament light, 70 W 240v, . No blinking with open circuit LS BUT also, the light did not blink with a music signal to LS (from parrallel connection to a Loud Speaker).
We tried on 2 circuits.
Please note that energy saving lamps are not suited for this kit.
Most likely, you destroyed the triac and/or other parts of the kit.
Kit requires reasonable volume at input in order to operate.

removing the opto coupler and connecting a short over the ic socket pin 4 and 6 causes the light to turn on
does this then mean that the high voltage part of the circuit is ok (including Triac)?
Also note, that we have 10 kits, only 4 have been powered on and it is these that we test first (leaving the others “clean” until a suitable test method is found).
Low voltage part of the circuit
I believe the least power to turn on the opto is a music signal of at least 2W at LS input.
Can we also use a battery as a power source?
1.5 or 9v (or something inbetween)?
We have used a 1.5 v without the opto, and measured a voltage of about .5v over pin1&2 of the opto socket.
In the meantime, we read more theory to find a suitable test scheme for the kit.
(Sensitivity/Trigger current for the K3020P seems to be 5mA)
If you bridge the output of the opto coupler and the lamp lights, then the high voltage part is OK.
Unit can be triggered with a DC voltage. Make sure polarity is correct.
