I just completed building a MK118 radio kit. As far as I can tell, I assembled/soldered everything correctly and none of the joints look too sloppy (though I am still very new to this, so my opinion on that might not mean a whole lot). I am using a DC converter for the power source.
My problem is basically that I have no sound. The “on” light comes on like it is supposed to, no flickering or anything, but I can’t hear anything. The only other thing I notice is that IC1 seems to get very hot, but I don’t know if that is abnormal. The instructions were a little hazy on the specifics of installing the power cables for the speaker and I have never build one before, so that could be the problem too. My kit did not include any power cables, so I borrowed some of the length of cable from my MK102 kit for the speaker.
Does anybody have any idea what the problem might be? I don’t know where to begin troubleshooting a circuit aside from a complete teardown/rebuild. If it would help, I can provide pics of both the top and bottom of the PCB.
Any help would be appreciated!
Edit: Forgot to mention that I also tried using an old PC mobo speaker that I had lying around instead of the stock speaker, to no avail. Not sure if that helps!
