Lab - 1

Hi there,

The soldering station on my LAB - 1 does not heat!

Symptoms:
-Multimeter works
-Power supply works
-Heating-diod on soldering station lights
-Power-diod on soldering station lights
-Cable to soldering iron is connected
-It has worked before - now it doesn’t heat

Please give advice of what the problem is and how to solve it!

Best regards,
Helge

Most likely, the iron itself is defective.
We’d recommend to return the iron or the complete unit for inspection/repair.

I have the same problem. It has worked alright for years (no warranty any more) but yesterday I found that the
iron doesn’t heat at all.
I unmounted the connector (DIN with 5 pins in a halfcircle.)

I found out that two of them have about 1.8 ohms between them (the heating element) , then I measured the voltage over those pins when it was connected to the Lab -1 and the iron switched on (set the temp rather high).
0.00 V ! So I would like to have a fault finding check list from Velleman in order to fix the PCB responsible for the heating. It is labeled ZD-LAB and has a bunch of components so without a scheme or faultfinding checklist it’s a bit trickier to solve… :frowning:

Sorry, this is not available.
You can return your defective unit to your dealer

Hi!

The problem is solved!

I removed some of the transistors and measured them (measured hFE) and they were alright.
Mounted them again and tested some of the diodes, also OK.

Finally I soldered some wires to the quad op-amps outputs (the two of them that are used…) and after that quick solder heating , it works. My guess is that a bond wire might have bad contact inside the opamp and after that short heatup it is (loosely) connected again. So it might stop working easily again, but if so, I’ll replace the op amp (HA17324A).
