K8602 DMX USB INTERFACE kit problems

Hi

Im living in south africa, bought an usb interface from a supplier.
I thought it was a plug and play system ? i cant get it to connect to pc <-> interface.
The Power light comes on, but nothing else ?
im not clued up with programming and the attached software is not helping much
Can anyone assist ?

Regards

On plugging in USB cable, Power LED comes on, and DMX LED flashes 3 times, then turns off.
This indicates the microcontroller is running and the USB “handshaking” (enumeration) succeeded.

The DMX LED flashes all the time when the data is transmitted to the DMX fixture.
The data is transmitted all the time when the DMX program (or demo) is running.

Have you downloaded the “Software development Kit” from: velleman.eu/support/download … 8062&type=
The package includes some instructions and example programs written in Visual Basic, C++ and Delphi.
Have you also downloaded the “DMX demo and test software” and got your DMX fixture working with it?

If still problems, you may also try this new software version for the K8062:
box.net/shared/mr5qns9jvj
This version is using new USB communication driver.
The files K8062D.DLL and K8062E.EXE are updated to version 3.0.0.0.

Please extract the package to a folder and run the DMX_demo.exe in this folder.

If OK, then you can to copy the files K8062D.DLL, K8062E.EXE and FASTTime32.dll to the Windows subfolder System32.
If you use a 64 bit operating system, copy the files to subfolder SysWOW64

You can also use the ‘search’ option. There are numerous posts on this item K8062 / VM116.

i have tried everything suggested … nothing is working … the dmx light does not flash 3 times when I insert the usb cable !!!
As I stated previously , it looks like you need to be a software guru to make a simple thing work properly …
the only reasoning I can come to now is that I wasted my money on a useless product !!

it comes to false advertising and misleading salesmanship !!

UNHAPPY COSTOMER !!!

Have you tried a different USB cable or an active (powered) hub?

Yes I have tried another USB cable, unfortunately not every person has an active hub on hand.
In today’s technologies of plug and play, and seeing that I am no programmer, I do not have the time and do not have the need to play around with test modules … and trial and error system to try it make work … ???

Therefor I salute the manufacturers on a money wasted - useless product and will surely not promote it …
Congrats to those who after struggling too has made it work …

Once again … buying cheap stuff is surely not worth the effort !!!

adios !!!

A few have tried to assist as you requested in your first post.
But after reading your following post.
I give up!

Unfortunately this is how the new generation was brought up. “Make it work on my tablet or its your fault!”

Not much we old guys can do about it.

thank you for your expert advise !! which did not work ??? and I am not from the "younger " generation as you presume ??/ therefor I am struggling with these things !!!

I am disappointed and frustrated that I have to spend money on a product and it does not work as you expected.

Funny how an expert gives up so quickly after a few posts and think the “amature” should get it right straight away !!

Why do you think plug and play is also called plug and pray?
In the old days people wrote software that was simple and worked! But now we live in world where first things are sold and afterwards problems get solved by updates. USB is a weak spot. Why do you think that in industrial environments RS-232 is still being used? Right: because it just works! It is not sexy, it is not fast but it is reliable! So if you get into USB-problems, it is very hard to solve everything. It’s not the first one who had to reinstall his whole Windows because the USB-system got messed up irrepairably.
About the products of Velleman, I can only say that they still try to do the right thing: they test their stuff before marketing it. If you follow the mounting guide and have a bit of soldering experience, it is almost 100% sure that the kit will work.
If it really does not work: return the item to the shop where you bought it and normally they will help you a bit further. If not, there is also Vellemans after sale: send your product to them and they will repair it for a very honest price. Of course: if there is something wrong with your computer or operating system, they can’t help you with that.
