Hi
I have soldered together the K8062 kit.
My light, a Maplin Pro Sound SM1, does not respond to the signal. On the LCD display, on the DMX light, a pixel in the bottom right keeps turning on and off. I understand, from reading the manual, this indicates that the DMX signal has been lost. I have tried two different lights and two different cables.
Using a multimeter, I have checked the voltage as it leaves the PCB, from the pins on the DMX connector. I have also checked the voltage at the end of the 6 metre XLR cable. Both are good.
I am using the test software for the K8062 supplied on the CD. Furthermore, I have used the standalone function with a 9V battery (the battery was brand new and I checked the voltage). In both cases I have voltage from pins 2 and 3 when compared with ground pin 1. The voltage varies depending on the DMX channel settings. So I feel it is functioning correctly.
In the software I have set the number of DMX channels to 512 (following advice taken from another post on the forum).
The voltage doesn’t go far above 2V. Should it go any higher for some settings?
I read advice, on another post on this forum, which suggested reversing the pin assignment for 2 and 3. Which I have tried, but still no luck. The light does not respond to the signal.
I have contacted Maplin who manufactured the light and supplied the K8062. They suggested returning all the kit for them to test. They were unable to provide technical advice regarding DMX.
Would you please be able to other any further advice before I return the kit?
Thank you
Andrew Jasper
