I built the K8048 and I could not get it to be seen by the picprog2 or pic 2009 program on my windows xp desktop. I tried it on a different xp pc and it found it ok. On the pc that worked it only says 4048 found after you go to the hardware config drop down and click port your using even though its already ticked. Such as COM PORT 1. I did have a moment when I realised that even though I had got the programmer to communicate it still did not run the leds. However I had put all the leds in back to front .
So back to my xp desktop. This would not see the programmer at all. So after lots of messing around I done the following:
Re boot your pc and enter the BIOS via whatever hot key it suggest on power up. Go to the setup for the com port1. Change it from AUTO to IRQ4. Save that then let the pc boot up to windows( mine did this very slowly as if it was thinking about what had been done) Then go to windows hardware manager and double click on com port 1. Then click on the find new plugnplay devices attatched, icon to educate the port. then close windows down and wait 2 minutes. Then power up pc as normal with the programmer conected. Open up picprog2 or or the other programme that comes with it. Go to the hardware config click on com port 1. The window will now say K8048 detected.
Getting these things to communicate seems to be an issue going by all the posts I read which did not help. Hopefully the above will help someone who pulling his hair out as I was.
Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever seen an issue dealing with IRQs that wasn’t very specific to that motherboard. It would be much easier for someone to know if your resolution here would be helpful for them if you posted the specifics of your motherboard…
