K8004 - questions!

I have a electric water pump for cooling a car engine. At the moment it is running directly from 12v supply. I believe it is running too fast and want to half it’s running speed. I have just bought the 8004 kit.

I have a couple of questions ( i know very little of electronics!)

I have yet to measure the power in amps whilst it is running at 12vdc the kit is rated at 6.5a. if running power is close to this will it be ok? will the starting spike of current damage it?

is there any way of uprating the kit to, say, 7.5a?

will i need a external potentiometer to adjust speed? if so can you suggest specs?

many thanks

Testing will reveal if the kit is suited, as there are a couple of issues:

Running it close to the max. specs could prematurely trip the protection circuit.
The unit is equipped with a soft start circuit, which might need adaption with certain loads.

In order to increase the output current, you would have to :

Enlarge the heatsink
Adapt the PCB tracks so that they can handle the current.
Adapt the current limit circuit.

Sorry, we cannot assist with modifications, please experiment.

You do not need an external potmeter, you can use the one on the board, as you are going to use it at a fixed speed.

Thank you for your knowledgeable and prompt responses ( very rare these days)
