K4304 vu-meter

No problem!

Could the output of K4304 be fed to an analogue vu display (needle), instead to the led’s?

Sorry, the K4304 has no output.

some time ago I had buyed the same kit.
last week I want it to mount it and I did .
I had checked 3 times all the soldering and contacts , and also the parts …all seems to be ok , but is malfunction .

When i feed with power ( 12V constant ) , all leds are lightup / burning

  1. if I short input ( gnd + low or high ) = nothing is happening
  2. If i take out the long CI , leds goes off
  3. ZD1 and D3 are in place ( not switched )
  4. J1/J2 are closed

any suggestion ?

“ALL LEDS ARE ON” PROBLEM SOLVED, K4304 Vu METER

After pulling my hair out trying to figure out why the LED’s turn on full blast and stay on with the slightest turn of the potentiometer, I finally figured it out. The feedback resister and diode configuration, R2 and D1, changes the voltage drop at pin 2 of the 741 op amp (lower and lower voltage drop as you turn the pot clockwise) causing the output to go astronomically high, and thus turning on all the LED’s almost immediately. When I removed them (R2 and D1), the problem went away. The unit still detects input voltage fine, and the beautiful part is, no more ‘all LEDs are on and I can’t get them off’ nightmare! This problem has happened with at least three to four of my kits I’ve assembled out of about 20. I say, just leave those components out of your new designs. It’s obviously an issue, and I’m not the only one who has had problems.

It is NOT an assembly error. Not sure why some do this and some don’t, but maybe you you should just leave those components out from now on as to avoid disappointed customers. :slight_smile:
