K2543 mica isolation plate required?

One question regarding the electronic ignition kit, I’m wondering why there is a isolation plate between the transistor heatsink and the cooling device. Becaue of the isolation the heat can’t spread very well. As far as I know the heatsink should never be under power.

We have fried a transistor on a 2000 cc 4 cilinder VW engine, which probably would not have happen if the heat was better discharged!

Most likely, you did not use any heat conducting paste between the mica.
The heatsink must be isolated to avoid a short circuit with the chassis of the car.

Hi, Indeed I have not used any heat conducting paste I haven’t seen that in the manual, did I over look that?
What other reason can there be for getting that hot that even the plastic stud melted. The condensator of the coil was disconnected

Most likely, it is not mentioned in the manual, as it is so obvious.
Maybe we should add it, just to make sure.
Anyway, we cannot think of another reason why the unit would overheat.
