My old car had a pair of K2543 ignition amplifiers in the engine compartment. I had a failure once which I suspect could be due to heat in the engine compartment.
On my new car (well 36 years old but new to me) I have fitted a new pair of these ignition amplifiers but for a more reliable and stealth look I screwed the box to the side of the glovebox, so it is totally hidden behind the dashboard.
I have to have a pair of amplifiers because this V6 engine has two contact breakers and two coils, so it is like an independant pair of 3 cylinder engines.
The car runs very well but the K2543 ignition amplifiers are very noisy. At idle it sounds like a couple of cicadas in the car. When the car is driven and the revs increase they sound like demented cicadas.
Why do the K2543s make a noise? I tested to see if both circuits make a noise (by running them one at a time) and they do both make a noise.
