Help with K8048 please

HI
I have recently bought the K8048 Kit and it claimes to be able to program the PIC16F819. how ever there is no PIC16F819 option in the software that came with it, can anyone shed some light on the matter please?

Did you try PICprog2009?
You can download it here:

http://www.velleman.eu/downloads/files/downloads/picprog2009_rev_3_05.zip

Yes PicProg 2009 came with the kit I tried this veresion as it is slightly newer but it does not support the 16F819 either.
Is this a hardware limitation or a software limitation?

I have now also tried winPic - which doesn’t support this pic either and picPgm which doen’t support the programmer.
any Ideas?

Did you try programming it with the programmer set to a similar PIC?

Yes I have tried to program it as a 818 with winpic and changed the devices.ini to account for the differences in memory, etc.
the picProg2009 doesn’t suport any of the similar pics listed in the k8048 specification.

is this a problem with the k8048 documentation? that is cannot acctually do this chip(16F819)?
other strange behaviour of this chip is that it runs when the switch is in “PROG.” position, and the reset button doesn’t reset it. however these problems do not occur with the other chips I have used.

You should try the other older software that comes with the K8048, called ProgPIC2. My Velleman CD had version 2.6 on it. That software has a setting for 16F819, as well as some of the ‘A’ chips listed in the K8048 documentation. I have not tried the 819, but this works for the 16F873A.

I also just noticed that the device selection in WinPIC does include PIC16F819, near the top. Oddly, the PIC16F818 appears twice, leading one to believe there is no 819, if only the second listing is seen.

Hmmm… Thanks Norbert, that is true, I will try with winPic again and see if I have any luck.
