Garage Door Opener using VM130T

Hi. I have bought a VM130 which I intend to hook up to my existing garage door opener. The receiver part is not a problem, my question relates to the transmitter.

I am intending to strip out the PCB from the case, remove the 12V battery, solder a link across one of the switches (so it is permanently ‘pressed’ ), and then connect the -ve battery connection to earth, and the +ve to my headlamp flasher, then insulate the VM130T PCB and hide it inside the fairing (this is on a motorbike ).

I have 2 questions.

  1. Can you see any problems shorting out the switch in this way?

  2. The voltage of the bike electrics can vary from about 12.2 to 14.6VDC. Will this be too high a voltage for the VM130T (bearing in mind, it will only be a momentary push on the headlamp flasher.

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Normally we do not support modifications, but in your case I did the exact same thing and it works fine.

Thanks very much for your prompt reply. It’s a great product especially as the complete unit (receiver + transmitter) is less than half the price that it would have cost me for a new Bosch transmitter for my garage door unit. Thanks again.
