I am new to the forum and not an electronics genius but can manage all the Vellman kits
I make miniature rooms, shops and theatres and wish to install (in addition to the standard lighting) a set of high power 12v led’s to mimic a lightning storm. I already have a suitable sound track I use via small speakers.
Ideally I need to be able to produce a 3 second burst of flashiing lights (the lightning strike) and then have a pause of say 10 seconds before the strike repeats. Both the strike and the pause duration need to be to be variable
I have purchased velleman kits MK111 & 180 which alone do not give the effect i need
The 180 gives the pulse effect I need but I cannot delay the time between lightning strikes.
The 111 is great almost there as this gives me a switched “on duration” that is variable and then a variable pause . The problem I have is making the led’s flash during the the on duration.
If I link the 180 to the 111 together I can achieve the effect using the flashing options on the 180 HOWEVER it is too complex for my customers ( the option selector button on the 180 would inevitably be pressed and the lightning effect lost - I would be inundated with problems
I have two options using the MK111 which is my preferred route as the 111 is not so complicated and has no adjustment dials.
- Use flashing white led’s but I can only get those meant for alarm systems. The flash frequency of these is however too slow at one flash per second. - I need a flash of 4 per second or greater
- My ideal solution would be a small circuit board that I can utilise with the MK111. The 111 gives me a switched output with a variable “on duration” and a variable pause between “on durations”
I would need to make vero board circuit to to give a variable flashing speed for standard 12v leds
Can anyone help me on how I can achieve option 2 please (or a source3 for faster flashing bright white led)
