I loved putting this together! Anyway, I do model railways which I bought the printer for doing prototypes.
I would like to get a really tight smooth sides on it. The first print of the cover for the board is quite coarse.
Yeah, I know that it printed at a slightly larger print size (3).
Anyone have an idea of how to get the finest possible print with the printer using Slic3r or other programs?
I don’t mind how long it takes as being new to this I don’t care if the printer even has to go slowly.
John.
At first :
Calibrate your extrusion rate and extruder steps/mm
To get fine layers use low layer height (0.2mm)
If you want really fine printing use a better Hotend. (E3D v6 for example)
With that you can get down to 0.1mm layers and 0.25mm nozzle size, for really small details.
But this also requires a REALLY GOOD calibrated printer.
cheers,
Christian
I finally got it working well enough by bumping the base heat to 60 degrees and the nozzle to 195 so it sticks nicely to the bed.
It is still coarse, but looking at prints done with the E3D V6 it makes me think that I should do it.
At the place I bought the printer from, the original replacement head is $249 and the E3D V6 I can get for about $120, so the finer head would be worth it to change out and keep the original head as a coarse backup if things go wrong.
I did see a STL file on a bracket that will hold it in the machine, so I’ll print that as a start.
Sounds like a plan?
Yep. The best upgrade i ever made to my machine!
