Why that?
It slices faster, it prints faster, and it makes far fewer travel moves across perimeters, so you get much cleaner prints.

But i think you mean cura engine (which comes with repetier), or are you using standalone cura?

Yes, I’m using the cura engine that is embedded in Reperier host along with slic3r. That makes it easy to compare the two.
I’m exactly with you in that.
I almost never use slic3r sice cura engine is available.
Only for very tricky parts (more tweakable settings) or spiral vase parts slic3r has better results.

I agree that slic3r works better for spiral vases, and for vases in general. The problem is that cura specifies wall thickness in millimeters rather than in number of perimeters. If cura used perimeters in the same way that slic3r does, then it would be perfect.
