Calibration issue

Hello,

I am having issues with the calibration pf my 3D printer. The printer works perfectly in terms of the bed movement and the bed and extruder heating up. My big issue is the extruded plastic not being extruded consistantly, consequently ruining the parts being created. I am trying to print the pcb cover, the default first print. The bed is moving in the right place it just doesnt seem to be releasing enough plastic. I have experimented with raising the temperature of the extruder and increasing the flow rate toggle and adjusting the tension spring. I have hosted a video of the issue at:

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Regards will.

Pics or video could help a lot.
Please provide links.

Sorry, but we can’t see the video.
Please post a direct link.

Sorry… I have uploaded it to youtube. Heres the link.

Your extruder is definately blocking.

Try to widen the distance between the big and small gear on the extruder.
If they are set too tight the extruder will stall.

Did you set the reference voltage on the driver cards to 0.55 as well?
If not you should try it.

I have set the voltages but i will check these. I will try and increase the distance between the cogs tomorrow to see if that works. Thanks!

You may also want to check the small gear and make sure it’s not rubbing on the motor.

Hey guys,

So i have adjusted the distance of the gears, and whilst improving the consistancy of the print, the extruder nozzle is getting blocked. I havent had a chance to check the resistances, but is it possible that this could be causing the problem?

And advice is greatly appreciated.

Make sure the thermistor is properly placed.

I checked the thermistor, also checked the extruder witg a thermometer and it was relative to the temperature shown.

You may want to look at the wiring on the extruder as well.

Have you tried to swap the driver cards say between the Z-axis and the extruder to see if the problem moves?

Will give that a go and let you know on Monday, thanks

I will be interested to hear what you find.

I had a very similar problem and found the tension screw was to tight and would sometimes stall the motor. Backed it off and much beter now.

Hey,
Has been a while since I had time to see to the printer. I ensured that the gear was not rubbing against the motor and it was not.
I also checked the voltages on the pcb were .425… all were correct.
I actually think the issue has got worse and im really at a loss what to try next. When I extrude the filament manually it works fine, the second I run a job its useless! The lines that are extruded are dotted and not consistent.
Any fresh ideas guys?
Thanks.

Set the stepper voltages to 0.55V instrad of 0.425.

Hello all,

Still having the same issue despite trying all the suggestions in this topic. The earlier youtube video that I posted shows exactly what the problem is. I purchased this machine to use at my school and it has never worked properly. This is of course quite embarrassing for me as we spent a lot of money on it. Considering the machine is all functioning properly apart from the extrusion of material, I am coming to the conclusion that the extruder is faulty, considering it is getting clogged up straight away every time.

I am at the point where I want a refund for the machine, or a replacement, as none of the suggestions have worked and I am unable to spend much time with it. I would also consider paying someone to come and have a look at it, just to confirm what the problem is.

Please advise me what to do next in this situation, thanks.

In your case i would try to completely rewire the extruder motor.
Run 4 new wires from the board to the motor.
Seems you have a bad ribbon cable. I had a similar issue, due to a bad ribbon cable.

cheers,

Christian

You may want to inspect the extruder.
Make sure the gears are not to close to each other.
Make sure the nut on the hobbed bolt (ichbinsnur I think I got it right LOL)
You may even want to take it apart and check the bearings to see if they are locked up.
