4-5 Command Waiting (printer was working two days prior)

Hi There,

I have search the forums and none of the responses to similar issues have helped but all of a sudden after having a working printer for the last 3 weeks or so i connected the printer after 2 days from my last print and now im not getting anywhere with the printer.

When i click connect im getting 4-5 Command Waiting messages and that’s it. I have tried all sorts and nothing seems to have helped, ive even tried uninstalling Repetier Host and gone back to a clean install of V0.84 as per the install guides but the printer is not responding.

The printer hasn’t moved or been touched since the last print so can anyone help with what may be a reason for the issue other than the board no longer working.

I’ve only had the printer since just before xmas and only got round to finishing it about 3 weeks ago and its been working fine until yesterday :frowning:

Any help/support would be VERY much appreciated.

Regards

Check your usb cable and USB socket on the printer. Could be it came loose.
If you plugged the printer into a different USB port, check if the correct com port is set in repetier.
Also check baud rate 250000 and reset on connect disabled.

cheers,

Christian

Hi Christian,

Yeah i did all of that and nothing, BUT i have just tried setting up the printer on my work laptop and although i can see a new USB device showing up in the last im not getting any of the COM ports showing so im guessing the board is faulty but dont know why it would have all of a sudden decided to play up :frowning:

The worst thing although its not my fault i feel guilty as its my mates printer and we only got it running a little while ago and its staying at mine (yay for me) so i feel responcible even though i havent touched it since he was last here and we printed some stuff.

Check if 15V is present at the screw terminal.

Yeah im reading 15.4V over the terminal.

Have you checked for 5 volts?
The easiest way is to unplug one of the end stops and measure for 5 volts on the outside terminals on the board.

I found that after I click “connect” in Repetier-Host and I see “6 command waiting”, I have to press the “reset” button on the controller. Then the controller resets, sends the version info string to Repetier-Host and everything works fine from then on.

Not sure if that’s normal though.

No, that isn’t normal.
Check if you have reset on connect disabled in repetier printer settings.
Also the printer must be plugged in before trying the first connection.

Christian

Yeah i had tried that before and the reset button doesn’t make any difference.

Disabling “reset on connect” helped indeed, thanks! I had it set to some DTR -> something something, which was the default I think. The manual didn’t show that field (screenshot was probably made with a version older than mine).

LoR_NiKoN, the other thing I did when my board wasn’t responding was to change the baud rate to 115 200. I just couldn’t get my printer to work on 250 000, also tried with a simple arduino sketch with Bitlash, and that didn’t work on 250 000 either.

I’m not sure if the “reset on connect” switch played a role here, it may well have. I’ll try later to set it to 250 000 and see how it works.

To change the baud rate, you need to download the firmware source from Velleman (check “upgrading the firmware” tab in instructions), then manually change the baudrate in the arduino IDE (it’s in Configuration.h), and compile+upload the new sketch. The 115 200 option is actually commented out just below the default 250 000 one. Then you have to change the baud rate in printer settings in Repetier-Host.

Also remember you need to short out the jumpers on the controller while uploading a sketch.

See if that works for you.

(UPDATE: my printer still doesn’t work at 250 000, so this wasn’t just the “reset on connect” issue)

Nice to hear it works now.
Happy printing!
